BTWBA is Detroit’s oldest black business, founded in 1930. This directory was distributed under the leadership of the organization’s first female Chair, Betty E. Pulliam. “Our strategy is to marshal the consumer power of our community for the benefit of our community!...This is your Directory, and we urge you to begin today patronizing these black-owned businesses. This is the first of several directories to be printed for your use. (While we do not protest against non-black-owned businesses with a large black patronage, we urge you to support black-owned businesses).”
