1964 Carling Beer Commercial Production Shots; 150 slides of New England Photo Shoots

Kodachrome color slides housed in metal Smith-Victor storage case with clasp and taped, handwritten labels. Most slides numbered (although not consecutive), with dates stamped May-July of 1964. Great shots of commercial filming, crew with cameras and equipment, actors, nature, and, of course, beer. Locations (written on most slides in ink) include the Carling Brewery, Pier 4, and The Hub (Massachusetts), Pt. Judith (Rhode Island), Kent Falls (Connecticut), Wyndham County (Vermont), Kancamagus Highway (New Hampshire), and Mt. Blue (Maine).

Carling, the Canadian beer company founded in 1818, opened the brewery in Natick, MA, in 1956, closing operations in 1975 (the building was demolished in 2018). The brewery is perhaps best known for its beer Carling Black Label. The production shoot was done by Pike Productions Inc., founded in 1958, which produced commercials for Silly Putty and Ford, sales films for Gillette and AT&T, and political films for President John F. Kennedy and Senator Ted Kennedy (see https://travisedwardpike.com/Pike_Productions).

The slides offer a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse of the making of a beer commercial in the 1960s and beautifully documents scenic New England. Item #806
