Flower Arrangement Art of Japan
Rutland, Vermont and Tokyo, Japan: Charles E. Tuttle Co., 1951. First Printing. Printed by Dai Nippon Printing Co. 125(1) pp. The volume is string bound with internal toning to edges, a crease to lower corner, and modest edgewear. Housed in worn tri-fold slipcase with decorated pastedown, peg ties loose. Overall about VG+.
Laid in is a typed and SIGNED letter (TLS) “With great love Mary Wood” and dated July 27th, 1952 to a librarian named Etheldred of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Numerous corrections and notations. The letter talks of the summer, her idea for a Japanese Flower Show, news about her publisher writing that her book is selling 1-3 copies a day in Japan, and a comment that Adlai Stevenson “has what it will take.” A nice production, with a charming signed letter from the then eighty-year-old author.
