Boyden to “Sid” on ffep (whose ownership stamp appears opposite on pastedown—he graduated Deerfield in 1932, served in WWII, and worked as an advertising executive in New York before dying in 1998); and INSCRIBED to “Sidney” by Helen Boyden on p. 137 under a photo of her teaching at Deerfield. McPhee’s second book, a stirring portrait of Boyden, who was Headmaster of the prestigious Deerfield Academy in western Massachusetts from 1902-1968.
