[Vernacular Art] Why Gripe about Grapes?
5.5” x 8.5” Watercolor (with ink lettering and outlining) on reverse of American Red Cross stationery. VG or better with 3 tape repairs, a closed tear to upper corner, a chip to lower edge, and wrinkling. Unsigned. No date, but early to mid-twentieth century. Striking colors, with woman in dress kneeling on decorative hassock with head pitched back holding up a bunch of grapes. A nicely realized piece of vernacular art, with echoes of Haskell Coffin and Harrison Fisher. Item #261
