Ryan’s book, Threats Instead of Trees, was selected the following year by Stanley Kunitz for the Yale Series of Younger Poets and was a finalist for the National Book Award; Goldbarth had, by 1975, published two chapbooks of poetry and won the Poetry Northwest Theodore Roethke Prize; and Tate had already published four books of poetry by 1973, including The Lost Pilot (1967), which was selected for the Yale Series of Younger Poets.
