Hedgecock writes in her Preface, "This book is written for the young homemaker. it is designed to be a reference for the accepted principles of entertaining with suggestions for all types of parties throughout the year." Contents include: The Place of Entertaining Today, Table Setting and Decorations, Planning the Party, as well as sections on General Classifications (Dinner Parties, Tea Time, Wedding Festivities, Children's Parties, Bridge Parties and Club Meetings, Outdoor Meals) and Around the Calendar (Twelfth Night, June in January, Saint Patrick's Day, Easter, May Day, The Fourth of July, Halloween, Football Party, Thanksgiving, Christmas).
