Humorous and patriotic songs with original lyrics, including "The WAC is a Soldier Too," "We're the Women's Army," and "I Fell in Love with a WACy in Khaki." One of the lyrics of "The WAC is a Soldier Too" reads, "We'll be here to see this through. / We'll replace you men / While you fight at the front / For the WAC is a soldier too."
The WAAC (Women's Army Auxiliary Corps) was established in 1942 "for the purpose of making available to the national defense the knowledge, skill, and special training of women of the nation." The first WAAC Training Center was opened at Fort Des Moines, Iowa, that year, and in 1943 the name was changed to WAC and converted to active-duty status.
