Item #1179 Honor His Memory, April 2, 3, 4, Stop the War Now! Washington, DC: National Peace Action Coalition, [1971] Poster

Honor His Memory, April 2, 3, 4, Stop the War Now! Washington, DC: National Peace Action Coalition, [1971] Poster

Poster measures 11” x 17” (previously rolled, a touch of wear, 1” closed tear at top edge).

A striking poster featuring an image of Martin Luther King, Jr. that was promoting protests against the Vietnam War from April 2-4 and April 24 for marches on Washington and San Francisco. Includes a quote from King: "This widened war has narrowed domestic welfare programs, making the poor, white and Negro bear the burdens both at the front and at home…” This copy, unlike the two others in commerce, has a crudely cut mimeographed sheet (5” x 7”) pasted on the poster announcing information for the D.C. rally on April 3 in Lafayette Park sponsored by the Third World Task Force Against the War in S.E. Asia, the Student Mobilization Committee, and the Washington Peace Action Coalition. Events also included a mass teach-in at Howard University (featuring Leon Page from Cairo, IL, Black United Front) and a Memorial Meeting at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (sponsored by the D.C. Angela Davis Defense Committee). Item #1179
