Cary and his wife Brenda founded a tiny group called Southern Poets Theatre in 1974, and years later, Cary composed this play, which was based on oral history transcripts of ten women from the inner-city village in Atlanta known as Cabbagetown. The play, what the author calls "oral history theater," opened at the Academy Theatre in Atlanta on May 21, 1978.
