We locate an E.H. Jackson in Watford, a town approximately 20 miles to the northwest of London, around the turn of the 20th century. In the British Journal of Photography (March 2, 1906, p. 177) he is mentioned as former secretary of the Watford Camera Club, and the January 18, 1907 issue of The Photographic News reports on the fourth annual meeting of the Club, noting that “Many were the expressions of regret on Mr. Jackson’s retirement, he having worked hard during the past two years and brought the club to that state of perfection to which it can boast at the present time” (p. 54).

An exceptional image of a black woman taken outside London during the first decade of the twentieth century. Item #671
