Item #670 NCAWRR [National Coalition Against War, Racism, Repression] Original 1970 Illustrated Mimeographed Broadside Flyer

NCAWRR [National Coalition Against War, Racism, Repression] Original 1970 Illustrated Mimeographed Broadside Flyer

Original illustrated mimeographed broadside flyer printed in black, measuring 8.5” x 11”. NCAWRR mailing list/donation space blank at bottom margin.

NCAWRR, founded in September 1970, was, according to Simon Hall in Peace and Freedom: The Civil Rights and Antiwar Movements in the 1960s, “dedicated to building a multi-issue peace movement. The group’s leadership explained that it differed significantly from the NPAC ‘on the importance of bringing other issues into the antiwar movement,’ and, unlike its rival, it was prepared to advocate mass civil disobedience” (173).

This flyer announces a [Saturday] Nov. 21 [1970] Rally—We Charge Genocide!—Mass assemble at 11:30 at Columbus Circle, a 1pm March to the United Nations [roughly 2 miles], and a Rally from 2-4pm. The flyer notes that this is “Non-Violent Civil Disobedience” and is co-sponsored in NY by Vietnam Peace Parade Committee, M.A.N. Making a Nation, and Emergency Conference Committee. Speakers listed on flyer included Huey P. Newton, Minister of Defense, Black Panther Party; “Yoruba” Suzman, Minister of Informat, Young Lords Party; Rennie Davis, Conspiracy 8, N.C.A.W.R.R; Rev. James Bevel, M.A.N Making a Nat(ion); Beulah Sanders, Chairwoman, Citywide Welfare Rights; and Dr. Sidney Peck, N.C.A.W.R.R.

A striking protest flyer not found separately in OCLC (although we believe it might be a part of the Swarthmore College Peace Collection) and not found in commerce or auction records. Item #670
